Background
E17 art trail started in 2005 by two Walthamstow artists who wanted to find a way to help motivate and strengthen the local artistic community as well as find interesting and creative solutions to the shortage of dedicated arts spaces.
In 2009 over 150 arts events and exhibitions took place in 90 venues across Walthamstow representing over 300 artists. In 2008 the event was covered by the BBC and featured in The Walthamstow guardian with fantastic reviews. In 2009 they received funding by the arts council, to commission a local artist; they were featured in Time Out and achieved outstanding local press.
Statement
The E17 Art Trail is an artist run project which provides the framework for E17's and Waltham Forest's artists and makers to exhibit and promote their work and art practice Now in it's 5th year, the E17 Art Trail is firmly established on the cultural calendar for Waltham Forest.
Utilising every possible space as a venue, you won't just find art in the galleries and the museums, but also homes, gardens, shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, windows, sheds, lampposts, bridges, trees and hedges. The art forms you will find are equally diverse, including; architecture, ceramics, drawing, film and video, installation, mirror, neon, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, puppetry, sculpture and textiles.
The E17 Art Trail aims to create more opportunities for visual arts in the area, supporting a local network of artists and establishing new relationships between artists, audiences and business.
